Leasing Negotiator – Geoff Page

Having just moved into my 30’s, relocated to Brisbane from Sydney with my young family and having just gone through the buying process for our first home, I decided it was time to also start a new career and get my Real Estate License. I found the whole purchasing process interesting and decided ‘to give it a go’, especially after seeing firsthand the extraordinary growth of the Sydney market and the potential the Brisbane market has.

What I didn’t think about was what next:

  • residential or commercial?
  • sales, leasing or property management?
  • corporate or boutique company?
  • city or suburbia?
  • fixed wage or 100% commission?

Luckily, REIQ holds recruitment lunches for all of its graduates. It was there that I came across some interesting companies and in particular, the Directors of Your Commercial, Chris and Mel, who invited me to give them a call and come in for an interview.

I hadn’t really considered commercial real estate, but after meeting with Chris and Melanie and going on a number of other interviews with other firms focused on the residential market, I decided commercial was for me – the variety of people, the networking, the array of properties, the opportunity to make money and of course the Monday to Friday aspect of the industry really appealed to me. I also decided that Your Commercial was a good fit for me; encouraging, team work environment and role focused so I could concentrate on doing one job really well instead of constantly chasing my tail doing everything, career opportunity with a start-up and due to their company structure, target driven and rewarding.

I was really excited about starting my new role as a Leasing Negotiator in May 2018. I haven’t had one day where I haven’t been excited about coming into work. Of course, it has been challenging, particularly taking on a new role, in a new industry, in a new state, but it has been more than rewarding. I wake up every day excited about my coming day, about working with my colleagues, about learning new things, talking to and meeting new people and about closing deals. There never seem to be enough hours in the day!
